Mobile App Dev

April 21st, 2011

Development is underway on XY Apps using Titanium Mobile Developer to target both Android and iOS platforms. Things seemed to be going smoothly until I got to the share page. The share page will have some options for the user to share the app with friends through facebook, twitter, email, or text. Well the Facebook Share feature isn’t exactly well documented. After a lot of digging around through Appcelerator’s documentation and Q&A forums I found that I needed to add my Facebook app id in the tiapp.xml file. I got it up and running and the Twitter share was pretty straightforward along with opening an email dialog as well. The text message option supposedly works, but the iPhone simulator doesn’t allow that, I guess only devices, so I’ll have to wait a bit to test that out.

Check back for further developments.

Teen mobile phone statistics

May 6th, 2010

I came across this article on Flowtown and I thought it was pretty interesting. This information can be useful for when taking into consideration a younger demographic. I noticed that while a large percentage of teens text message, only 27% have access to the internet. So I suppose a more successful  mobile marketing campaign towards teens would be through text messages than through mobile internet, at least so far. Here’s an interesting note, teen females account for, on average, 80% of text messages sent daily.

3D Flash website running on Nexus 1 on Flash 10.1

May 5th, 2010

Just saw this video. That’s pretty sweet I think and I’m kind of surprised a bit on the performance. I thought flash might be a bit laggy on mobile devices because of their limited processing power. But the phone seemed to run that flash app like a champ. I’m still waiting for 10.1 on my Moto Droid, we haven’t even gotten the Beta yet :( What happened to that late January release?

Cool new features in Photoshop CS5

April 20th, 2010

CS5 scheduled to be released May 2010, will come with some cool new features that can save a ton of time. The articles goes over 5 new features in the new version of Photoshop, but my favorites are the Puppet Wrap and Content-Aware features.

Puppet Wrap is amazing! It’s a feature that was made available in After Effects CS4 (Puppet Tool) and made animating still images a lot easier. It’s about time this got brought over to photoshop, there was even a project where I used After Effects just for the Puppet Tool and exported it out to Photoshop. It allows you to insert pins into areas of your image and can be warped around it like a joint on your body.

The Content-Aware tool is just incredible. You need to watch the video in the link to see what all it can do. It will save soo much time and headache. To sum it up, its basically an automated clone stamp tool on steroids. I’m actually pretty excited for this next version of the Creative Suite, its looking like many of the programs will have many new features.

Telecommuting made easier with Adobe

April 20th, 2010

I was reading this article recently and I thought it was pretty interesting that Adobe offers this service. I guess it has gotten some use since a lot of people in Europe have been grounded from the ash clouds recently. It’s pretty cool actually, it let’s you have a video conference with up to 3 people and share your screen for the free version. I’m not sure how much the paid version is or how much more you get, but this would be a handy tool for many freelancers that telecomute. It’s an easy way to chat with your client and share your screen to show them progress on the project. I’ll have to check this out.

iPhone os4 VS flash cs5

April 16th, 2010

Adobe had annouced that flash CS5 will come with a packager to compile actionscript 3 into a native iPhone application. Apple recently released there terms of service for iPhone OS4 and explicitly state that no application can be run on the new OS that wasn’t created through apple’s Software Development Kit(SDK). What does this mean for Adobe?
